About South Preston
South Preston is a sparsely populated rural locality in the north-west of Tasmania, about 28 km south-west of Ulverstone, on the fringe of the farming valley of Gunns Plains. The district supports dairying and cattle grazing, and was gazetted as a locality in 1965. The rich volcanic soils of nearby Gunns Plains have made the surrounding country productive agricultural land for over a century.
