About Gunns Plains

Gunns Plains is a small town 20 km south of Ulverstone on Tasmania's north-west coast, in a valley discovered by the botanist Ronald Gunn in 1860 and named after him. The Leven River winds through its pastures, which graze stock on rich red volcanic soil. The town's main attraction is its limestone caves, more than 150 of which have been found, with the Gunns Plains Cave open to visitors on daily tours.
