About Nietta
Nietta is a rural locality in the Central Coast local government area of north-west Tasmania, about 44 kilometres south-west of Devonport. The name, used for a parish from 1886, is an Aboriginal word meaning little brother, and the locality was gazetted in 1965. The Wilmot River forms most of its eastern boundary and the River Leven much of its western. From 1915 to 1956 a narrow gauge railway ran from Ulverstone to Nietta, carrying timber, potatoes and other produce from the district.
