About Railway Estate

Railway Estate is an inner residential suburb of Townsville in the City of Townsville, Queensland, located three and a half kilometres south of the Townsville CBD. Situated on the south end of Ross Island and bounded by Ross Creek and Ross River, the suburb is one of Townsville's oldest residential communities, named because all land was originally owned by the Queensland Railways Department. The suburb is home to Railway Estate State School, established in 1916, and Townsville State High School, relocated to Railway Estate in 1964. Ross Island Barracks houses the 10th Force Support Battalion and the suburb includes several parks and the Ross River Marina.
