About Idalia
Idalia is a southern suburb of the City of Townsville, Queensland, located about five kilometres south of the city centre. Bounded by the Ross River, the North Coast railway line, and the Bruce Highway, the name derives from an 1860s pastoral estate. Formerly a light-industrial area, Idalia was home to the Ross River Meatworks (1892-1995), whose heritage-listed chimney still stands. The former site was redeveloped as the Fairfield Waters estate, featuring artificial lakes for wet-season stormwater management.
