About Cluden
Cluden is an outer southern suburb of Townsville, Queensland, located about eight and a half kilometres south of the central business district. The suburb takes its name from a property owned by James Gordon, the Sub-Collector of Customs in the late nineteenth century, likely named after a stream near his birthplace in Dumfries, Scotland. The Bruce Highway passes through the south-western corner, and the area is home to the heritage-listed Cluden Racecourse, relocated from central Townsville to be near the former Cluden railway station.
