About Wulguru
Wulguru is a residential suburb approximately nine kilometres south of the Townsville central business district in the City of Townsville, Queensland. The name derives from the Wulgurukaba, the Aboriginal language group of the Cleveland Bay area. Situated on the Flinders Highway opposite Cluden Racecourse, the suburb extends west towards Mount Stuart. During the Second World War, the suburb housed No. 3 Fighter Sector RAAF, whose bunker complex was built into the hillside and remains as a heritage-listed site. Wulguru State School opened in 1962, and the suburb contains a community centre, a shopping centre on Stuart Drive, and several churches.
