About Mudjimba
Mudjimba is a coastal suburb in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, located 11 kilometres north of Maroochydore and 113 kilometres north of Brisbane. The name derives from the Kabi language word for the Midyam bush with sweet white berries. Mudjimba Island, also called Old Woman Island, sits approximately one kilometre offshore and is protected as part of the Maroochy River Conservation Park. The ex-HMAS Brisbane was scuttled in 2005 approximately five kilometres offshore, creating an artificial reef and dive site that contributed 18 million dollars to the local economy. Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club was founded in 1996.
