About Birtinya

Birtinya is a suburb of Kawana Waters in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, built around the man-made Lake Kawana with an extensive canal estate system. Its name is reportedly an Aboriginal word meaning neighbouring. Birtinya is home to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, a major tertiary teaching hospital that opened in 2017, and the Lake Kawana Community Centre. The suburb is the planned terminus of a direct rail line to the Sunshine Coast.
