About Bokarina

Bokarina is a coastal suburb in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, located within the Kawana Waters urban centre. The name was bestowed in 1969 at the request of developer Alfred Grant Pty Ltd and is believed to be an Aboriginal expression meaning middle, reflecting the suburb's position halfway along the Kawana Waters development scheme. Bounded east by Bokarina Beach and the Coral Sea and west by man-made Lake Kawana, the suburb features the Sunshine Coast Stadium, Kawana Aquatic Centre with five heated pools and Kawana Waters State College, a Prep-12 government school. Bokarina Beach emerged in the early 1980s with initial subdivision between the foreshore reserve and sports complex on Nicklin Way.
