About Currimundi
Currimundi is a coastal suburb of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, just north of Caloundra. Its name, recorded in the 1840s, is thought to come from an Aboriginal word meaning 'place of flying foxes'. Currimundi Lake formed when a sandbar closed the mouth of Currimundi Creek, and the lake is protected as the Currimundi Lake (Kathleen McArthur) Conservation Park, notable for its wallum heathland. The suburb's housing development began in the early 1960s.
