About Glenella

Glenella is a mixed-use suburb located approximately 7.4 kilometres northwest of the Mackay central business district in Queensland, Australia. The area lies on the traditional lands of the Yuwibara people and was historically known as Hill End. The Bruce Highway and the North Coast railway line both traverse the suburb, which spans low-lying terrain rising from 10 to 60 metres in elevation. The landscape is characterised by residential areas in the east and south-east, a small industrial estate, and extensive sugarcane farming crisscrossed by Mackay Sugar cane tramways. Glenella State School, originally opened as Mackay North State School in 1879, was renamed in 1912 to match the local post office and was rebuilt after sustaining severe damage in the 1918 Mackay cyclone.
