About North Mackay
North Mackay is a suburb of Mackay in north Queensland, lying on the north bank of the Pioneer River opposite the city centre. European settlement of the area dates from 1867, when the riverside locality was known as Cremorne. The suburb grew after an iron bridge carrying traffic across the Pioneer River opened in 1888, and the Mackay outer harbour opened nearby in 1939. North Mackay was part of Pioneer Shire until it amalgamated into the Mackay Region in 1994.
