About Parramatta Park

Parramatta Park is an inner residential suburb of Cairns in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia, situated on traditional Yidinji Aboriginal country immediately west of the Cairns central business district. The area was originally promoted in 1884 as the Walkerville Estate by Sydney auctioneer John Macnamara, and was later renamed after the suburb of Parramatta in Sydney, with the suffix "Park" added to avoid confusion. Low-lying terrain and watercourses, including Lily Creek, characterised its geography and slowed early development. The suburb contains a mix of residential areas to the north, while the south houses several schools including St Joseph's Primary School and St Augustine's College, the Cairns Showgrounds, Barlow Park sporting facility, and an industrial precinct.
