About Cairns City
Cairns City, also called the Cairns CBD, is a coastal suburb comprising the central business district of Cairns in the Cairns Region, Queensland. It is situated in Yidinji traditional country and is bounded by Trinity Bay and Trinity Inlet. The suburb was officially named Cairns City on 1 September 1973 by the Queensland Place Names Board; the name Cairns honours William Cairns, Governor of Queensland from 1875 to 1877, after whom the settlement was named in 1876. The suburb is home to Cairns Central, the largest shopping mall in Far North Queensland.
