About Brinsmead
Brinsmead is a residential suburb of Cairns in Far North Queensland, located nine kilometres north-west of the Cairns central business district. Established in 1975, the suburb is situated in Yidinji traditional Aboriginal country. It is named after Brinsmead Gap, a topographical feature between the hills of the Whitfield Range, which was named after Horace George Brinsmead, a sugar plantation owner at Freshwater who guided groups to see Barron Falls in one of the first tourism ventures in the district. The northeast of the locality is within the Mount Whitfield Conservation Park. Freshwater Christian College, a Prep-12 school, serves the community.
