About Kanimbla (Qld)

Kanimbla is a residential suburb in the Cairns Region, Queensland, located seven kilometres west of the Cairns CBD. Established in 1989 from parts of Manoora and Mooroobool, the suburb was named after MV Kanimbla, a coastal passenger ship that serviced Cairns before World War II military service, itself named after Kanimbla Valley in the Blue Mountains. Situated in Yidinji traditional Aboriginal country, Kanimbla straddles the upper reaches of Moody's Creek and elevations exceed 500 metres towards Mooroobool Peak. Campbells Lookout on Lake Morris Road provides panoramic views across Cairns to Trinity Bay.
