About Pinkenba
Pinkenba is an eastern coastal suburb of Brisbane on the north side of the Brisbane River facing Moreton Bay, about 10 kilometres east-north-east of the central business district. Bounded by Brisbane Airport to the west, the area is predominantly industrial, hosting the BP Bulwer Island import terminal, Shell Pinkenba Terminal and Brisbane's first sewage treatment plant opened in 1923. The name derives from the Turrubal word binkinba meaning place of tortoises.
