Lytton

About Lytton

Lytton is an outer riverside suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, on the south-east bank of the Brisbane River near its mouth, about 13 kilometres east of the city centre. A pilot station and village were established here in 1859 and the suburb is named after Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the British colonial secretary. Fort Lytton, a pentagonal fort with a moat built in 1880-1882, guarded the river mouth until 1965 and is now a national park, while the surrounding area is dominated by the oil refinery and port industry.
