About Mount Dandenong
Mount Dandenong is a township and tourist area on the summit of the Dandenong Ranges, about 45 km east of Melbourne in the Shire of Yarra Ranges. The 633-metre peak, known in the Woiwurrung language as Corhanwarrabul, is the highest point in the ranges and has clear views across Melbourne; its summit is home to the SkyHigh gardens and the metropolitan television transmission towers. Settled in 1893 as a village of small farms, the area grew as a tourist destination after Observatory Road opened to motor traffic in 1930.
