About Montrose (Vic.)

Montrose is a suburb in the Dandenong Ranges, about 33 km east of Melbourne's city centre, at the foothills of Mount Dandenong and the northern gateway to the Dandenong Ranges National Park. Settled as farming land known as South Mooroolbark and informally called Double Pitts after local saw pits, it was renamed Montrose in 1892. Orchards flourished on its high-rainfall slopes in the early 1900s before residential growth took hold.
