About Kilsyth South

Kilsyth South is a suburb of Melbourne about 32 km east of the central business district, in the outer eastern foothills beneath Mount Dandenong. Its remnant bushland is the only place in the world where the Kilsyth South Spider Orchid grows, an extremely rare ground orchid discovered in 1991 that has been reduced to a single known flowering plant, and the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria has worked to conserve the species through seed germination. The suburb, formerly in the Shire of Lillydale, remains a leafy residential area.
