About Winter Valley
Winter Valley is a western suburb of Ballarat in Victoria, established in 2016 as part of the city's western growth zone on former pastureland that once belonged to Delacombe and Smythes Creek. It is named after John Winter, a Scottish butcher who made a fortune supplying meat to gold miners in the 1850s. The suburb looks towards the distant Mount Buninyong, and the nearby Winter's Swamp, renamed Mullawallah Wetlands in 2016, honours the 19th-century Wadawurrung elder Mullawallah, whose name was considered for the suburb itself.
