About Newington (Vic.)
Newington is a suburb south-west of Ballarat in Victoria, notable for Victoria Park, the city's largest open parkland, with sporting grounds linked by avenues of conifers and oaks planted in the 1920s and ornamental wetlands and lakes. The area opened up after deep lead gold mining began in the 1860s, and its first residential subdivisions were released in 1867. Housing is largely detached Victorian and interwar-era homes.
