About Scoresby
Scoresby is a suburb in the outer south-east of Melbourne, in the City of Knox. The surrounding parish was surveyed in 1857 and named after William Scoresby, an English Arctic explorer and researcher of magnetism who visited Victoria in 1856. A village grew up in the 1870s around the junction of Ferntree Gully and Stud roads, with a school and church, and the district was later known for orchards and market gardens before suburban development began in the late 1950s.
