About Wantirna South
Wantirna South is a suburb of Melbourne, 25 km east of the central business district in the City of Knox, which has its council seat there. The name Wantirna is thought to be a Woi Wurrung word meaning gurgling stream, and the area was recognised as a locality in 1928. Once mostly orchards, the suburb is now dominated by the Westfield Knox City shopping centre, which opened in 1977 and is one of Melbourne's largest.
