About Wheelers Hill

Wheelers Hill is a residential suburb of Melbourne, about 22 km south-east of the central business district in the City of Monash, centred on the high ridge east of Springvale Road. Named after the early pastoralist James Wheeler, the name was adopted when the local post office, formerly Mulgrave, was renamed Wheelers Hill in 1888. Between 1905 and 1940 the steep climb along Ferntree Gully Road was a popular trial course for motor cars and motorcycles, before housing development transformed the area from the 1960s.
