About Streatham
Streatham is a rural village on the Glenelg Highway in the Western District of Victoria, about 80 km west of Ballarat, in the Rural City of Ararat. One of the earliest settlements in the area, the site was known as Fiery Creek in the 1840s and renamed after Streatham in London in 1852; the district's first post office opened there in 1844. The Terminus Hotel, opened in 1850, built substantial bluestone stables for Cobb & Co coaches, and the town is now home to the Fireworld CFA Museum and Discovery Centre.
