About Nhill
Nhill is a town in the Wimmera region of western Victoria, located on the Western Highway halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide in the Shire of Hindmarsh. Believed to be a Wergaia word meaning early morning mist rising over water, the area was first visited by Europeans in 1845. Nhill was the first Victorian town after Melbourne to be supplied with electricity by 1892 and served as a RAAF training base during World War II, instructing over 10,000 airmen. The town is home to Luv-a-Duck, a major duck meat processor, and the Australian Pinball Museum. A community of Karen refugees from Myanmar has settled in the town since the early 2010s. Nhill crater on Mars is named after the town.
