About Lawloit
Lawloit is a locality in the Kaniva district of north-west Victoria. It was the first township in the area, with a village proclaimed in 1868, and the gold-escort route from Mount Alexander to Adelaide passed through the Lawloit hills in 1852-53. The name possibly came from the Lawloit Inn, a shanty built for travellers in 1862. Lawloit shire, formed in 1891, was renamed Kaniva in 1939.
