About Lorquon
Lorquon is a rural locality in north-west Victoria, near the northern edge of the Wimmera district in the Shire of Hindmarsh, about 22 km north-east of Nhill. The name comes from a pastoral run taken up in 1851 and is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word for a water hole. From the 1880s the settlement gained a school, church, store, hotel and mechanics' institute; the school closed in the 1970s and the railway line in 1986.
