About Nar Nar Goon

Nar Nar Goon is a town in Gippsland, about 61 km south-east of Melbourne in the Shire of Cardinia, on the traditional country of the Boon Wurrung people, whose name for the area is said to mean native bear. Earlier known as Mount Ararat, after the pastoral run taken up in 1844, the town grew after the railway reached it in the 1870s and became a service centre for a prosperous dairying district. It is known as the mural town, with paintings depicting its history adorning many of its old buildings.
