About Koo Wee Rup North

Koo Wee Rup North is a locality in Victoria, 62 kilometres south-east of Melbourne's central business district in the Shire of Cardinia. It lies within the former Koo Wee Rup Swamp, Victoria's largest swamp, which was drained from the 1870s to open up the land for farming. The reclaimed district became known as the 'potato capital' of Victoria and later developed intensive market gardening, producing much of Australia's asparagus. The Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation are the traditional custodians of the area.
