About Maryknoll
Maryknoll is a town about 61 km south-east of Melbourne in the Shire of Cardinia, adjacent to Bunyip State Park and one of the youngest towns in the shire. It was founded in 1949 as the St Mary's Cooperative Settlement, a planned Catholic community established by Father Wilfred Pooley so city families could live rural lives, and was renamed Maryknoll in 1955. Its planned layout of curved streets, retained bushland and 1950s architect-designed houses is recognised as a rare example of Modernist town planning of State significance.
