About Pakenham Upper
Pakenham Upper is a locality in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, 53 kilometres south-east of Melbourne's central business district in the Shire of Cardinia. Originally known as Gembrook South, the settlement dates from 1872, with its post office established in 1882 and renamed Pakenham Upper in 1913. The district developed as a farming area known for orchards, dairying and timber-cutting, and the heritage-listed township precinct at the Bourkes Creek and Old Gembrook Roads intersection includes a hall built by volunteers in 1912.
