About Koo Wee Rup

Koo Wee Rup is a town in Victoria, Australia, 63 km south-east of Melbourne's central business district and located within the Shire of Cardinia local government area. Koo-Wee-Rup is an Aboriginal word for "blackfish swimming". Originally marshland, the Koo-Wee-Rup Swamp was transformed over ninety years, through one of the largest drainage schemes ever undertaken in Australia, into productive market gardens. The district is today a major producer of potatoes and asparagus.
