About Garfield
Garfield is a town in the Shire of Cardinia in Victoria, about 79 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. Originally called Cannibal Creek, it was renamed in memory of the American president James A. Garfield, who was assassinated in 1881. The town's picture theatre, built in 1924, was the first cinema in the shire and its first source of electricity.
