About Bunyip

Bunyip is a town in Gippsland, Victoria, about 81 kilometres south-east of Melbourne, in the Shire of Cardinia. It takes its name from the bunyip, the mythical swamp-dwelling creature of Aboriginal legend, and grew in the 1870s when it became the terminus of the Gippsland railway line. The town lies at the north-eastern end of the former Koo Wee Rup Swamp, on farming country where dairying and beef production remain important.
