About Gladysdale
Gladysdale is a rural locality in the Shire of Yarra Ranges, Victoria, in hilly country watered by tributaries of the Yarra River. Originally known as Slaty Creek, it was renamed in 1915 after Gladys Pettit, daughter of the local postmaster, to avoid confusion with Slaty Creek near St Arnaud. Timber cutting and farm selection were early industries, with timber carried by tramway to the Powelltown mill.
