About Taggerty

Taggerty is a small town in central Victoria, at the intersection of the Maroondah Highway and Thornton Road in the Shire of Murrindindi. The Acheron River crosses the highway at the township, which was settled as a pastoral run in 1846 and shifted to dairy farming after gold was discovered along the river in 1870. Now a quiet service town 18 kilometres south of Alexandra, it has a general store, town hall and caravan park.
