About Buxton (Vic.)
Buxton is a small town on the Maroondah Highway about 104 km north-east of Melbourne, in the Murrindindi Shire of Victoria. It lies on the Steavenson River near its junction with the Acheron River, part of the Goulburn River system, and settlement began with farm selections in the Acheron valley in the mid-1860s. The town, named by a government surveyor after a place in England, is a rural service village with a trout farm and hotel, and was rebuilt after being affected by the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.
