About Acheron

Acheron is a rural locality in the Shire of Murrindindi, situated along the Maroondah Highway at the confluence of the Acheron and Goulburn rivers, about 114 kilometres north of Melbourne and 12 kilometres south of Alexandra. The area features forested upper catchments, including parts of the Yarra Ranges National Park, alongside lower agricultural zones focused on beef cattle farming. Alluvial gold was discovered along the Acheron River in 1870.
