About Narbethong
Narbethong is a town on the Maroondah Highway in the Shire of Murrindindi, about 87 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, on the road from Melbourne to the Woods Point goldfield. The first European settlement was established around 1865 by Frederick Fisher, who built the Black Spur Inn there. The town was devastated by the Black Friday bushfires of 1939 and again by the Black Saturday bushfires of 2009.
