About Tarrengower

Tarrengower is a rural locality in the Shire of Mount Alexander, Victoria, located approximately 9 kilometres north-west of Castlemaine in the Loddon Valley. The name derives from the Dja Dja Wurrung word for Mount Tarrengower, the prominent peak that overlooks the township of Maldon. The area is steeped in gold rush history, with the Tarrangower goldfield discovered in 1853 attracting thousands of diggers to the region.
