About Neilborough
Neilborough is a rural locality 23 kilometres north of Bendigo in Victoria, near the Whipstick forest. Gold was discovered there in 1857, and the diggings were named Elysian Flat, with a township surveyed and named Neilborough in 1860. Mining continued strongly until the early 1900s. Eucalyptus distilleries that used timber from the Whipstick operated from 1900 into the 1930s, and schools served the district until the last one closed in 1965.
