About Kamarooka
Kamarooka is a rural locality about 35 kilometres north of Bendigo, on Dja Dja Wurrung country. Originally called Piccaninny Creek Station, the name Kamarooka is an Aboriginal word meaning wait a while. The area had a brief spurt of gold mining in the 1860s before transitioning to broadacre farming, assisted by irrigation from the Waranga Western channel since 1910.
