About Raywood

Raywood is a small town about 29 kilometres north of Bendigo in Victoria, on the northern edge of the Bendigo goldfields. Alluvial gold was discovered at nearby Thunder Plains in 1863, and within months the settlement had hotels, stores and crushing mills; a post office opened in 1864 and the railway from Bendigo arrived in 1882. The surrounding Whipstick forest area is now largely farming country.
