About Linton
Linton is a town on the Glenelg Highway in western Victoria, mostly within the Golden Plains Shire, on land the Wadawurrung people called Kayjup. Gold was found in 1855 at what became known as Linton's Diggings, and the modern township grew after it was rebuilt on Surface Hill in 1860. The Clarkesdale Bird Sanctuary lies to the south-east near Springdallah Creek, and the Living Sculptures indigenous gardens shaped as an eel and a snake are at Edinburgh Reserve.
