About Happy Valley (Golden Plains - Vic.)
Happy Valley is a small rural locality in the Golden Plains Shire, approximately 28 kilometres southwest of Ballarat in western Victoria. The area takes its name from the rich gold yields found here in the 1850s as part of the Woady Yaloak goldfields, which extended from Linton to Pitfield along Springdallah Creek. Today the landscape of rolling farmland supports sheep, cattle and mixed agriculture typical of the Golden Plains district, with the nearest service centre at Smythesdale.
