About Piggoreet
Piggoreet is a locality in the Golden Plains Shire of Victoria, southwest of Ballarat. It was a thriving gold-mining township during the deep-lead mining era of the 1860s, with over twenty mining companies operating in the district. At its peak more than 300 children were enrolled at the local school. As the gold mines were worked out the township declined and the area transitioned to sheep grazing.
